Enterprising at 50plus

Angela Robertson

People are not only living longer, they want to be active longer, looking after themselves for longer, engaged with their communities for longer... and many of us are doing that quite creatively. It's what has been called "The End of Retirement as We Know It". New Zealand is part of this world-wide "longevity" revolution. Kāpiti/Horowhenua is a thriving part of our country's economy and will have its fair share of Enterprising 50plus businesses.

Three local 50plus entrepreneurs, Adrian, Angela and Jill are looking to kick-start a network of people in the region who, at 50 plus, have started or intend to start their own businesses. Your business proposition could range from the conventional to ‘out there’ - a one-man band, or with multi-national aspirations. It doesn’t matter because there are always opportunities to pick up ideas, lessons learned and “don’t do that!” from others who have been through the journey.

2019 Electra Business Awards

Entering the 2019 Electra Business Awards is a must for every business in the region. With business excellence at the core, the program supports, recognises and rewards businesses in the Kāpiti and Horowhenua region. To date over 500 businesses have entered.

The Electra Business awards have been running continuously since 1993, making it one of New Zealand's longest running business awards. Based off the international business excellence model the Baldrige Framework, the entrants undergo robust assessing and judging processes against set criteria designed to be useful for Kiwi SMEs.

It’s impossible to put a value on entering, but at the very least, each business receives professional advice with a real commercial value of at least $3,500 and creates the opportunity for you to:

  • Step back and review what you do
  • Make the necessary improvements
  • Create recognition for your business
  • Benchmark your business success
  • Publicly celebrate your success

The awards Gala will be held on October 18th at the Southwards Car Museum.
