E-waste is electronic equipment that is unwanted or has reached the end of its life. A lot of Kiwi’s want to recycle, but often don’t know where to take these electronic items. As a business, you may have upgraded some of your electronics, or no longer have a need for some items, and now are looking for ways to safely recycle old equipment.
With Warehouse Stationery’s recent launch of their e-waste recycling programme, Kiwis can recycle any e-waste at six stores across the country. For local Kāpiti businesses, you can find a recycling station at the Paraparaumu store at Coastlands. With e-waste becoming the fastest-growing waste stream in their world, the initiative aims to divert thousands of kilograms of e-waste from landfill.
The initiative accepts a large range of electronic items to be recycled. These include computers, laptops, notebooks, tablets, palmtops, CRT monitors and projectors, LCD, flat panel monitors, printers, scanners, multi-functional devices, cameras, video cameras and computer peripherals, including power supplies and adaptors. To ensure privacy is maintained, it is the responsibility of the individual recycling the items to clear any personal data from any devices before being delivered in store.
There are several items that are unable to be recycled as part of this initiative. These include televisions, white goods, non-IT electronics, loose batteries, and mobile phones.
For brand ink cartridges, toner cartridges, drum cartridges and labelling cassettes, Warehouse Stationery has an e-waste recycling programme available through a partnership with Brother.
David Benattar, Chief Sustainability Officer at The Warehouse Group, says “We are proud to be taking a leadership role, in partnership with TechCollect NZ and its members, in driving this important agenda and making it simpler for people to do the right thing.”
