Dirt Duathlon 3 - Race in the dark!
Finally you get to navigate and bike in the night!
Welcome to the Dirt Duathlon - navigate on foot and bike, day and night
The series will take you, in teams of 2, 3 or 4 mixed or single gender, across 3 brand new courses across the Wellington / Horowhenua region.
The course will include mountain biking, hiking, navigation, team building and some surprise (potentially grubby but normally quirky and funny) activities along the way. You will complete the race by passing through checkpoints (CP) and the central HUB where you will prepare for a change of discipline, re-fuel for the next stage and continue on to the finish line. These races are a clover leaf design so no support crew is required.
Distances are approx 20 km but may vary.
Navigation is by good old fashioned map and compass.
What more could you ask for on a day out?
Race 1 : 28th June, Horowhenua
Race 2 : 26th July, Wellington
Race 3 : 22nd August, Kapiti, in the dark
The Dirt Duathlon Series is run by the Big Bang Adventure Charitable Trust. We were established in November 2010 and are registered with the Charities Commission.
Our trust is comprised of 4 trustees who wanted to share their enthusiasm for the outdoors and who recognised a need in the community for adventure-based activities. Our aim is to allow access to the outdoors in a relatively controlled and safe environment.
Together we have a combined experience of over 60 years in the outdoor industry, from managing an outdoor company in Scotland, to owning one in New Zealand. We have extensive event management experience and have worked the white waters of Venezuela, Colorado, New Zealand, Scotland and lead multi-pitch rock climbing & ice climbing. We have participated in and instructed kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, open boating, SUP's, bugging, abseiling, bridge swinging, mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, cliff jumping, team building activities and any other activity that keeps us away from the office
