50-50 - Binchotan and Brews

Join 50-50 on the Kāpiti Coast for a six-course beer matched dinner crafted over our Japanese barbeque. Using Binchōtan, a traditional type of charcoal used in Japanese cooking, to help bring out the flavours of locally sourced seafood, meat and produce. Mates from around the corner at Duncan’s Brewing Co. will be there too. Meet founder and head brewer George Duncan for some great beer banter and creative brews that will complement each dish.

Food Stories Aotearoa goes behind the scenes of Passo Pizza Pasta Caffè. In this interactive online class, chef Michele Passarello will teach you how to make busiate, a hand-rolled egg-free Sicilian pasta, pesto alla Trapanese and aubergine caponata.
With ingredients sent to your door and Michele taking you through the recipe, you will discover the secrets of Sicilian cuisine from the comfort of your own home.
Note: As the class is online, a strong internet connection is required. All are welcome, however, ingredients can ONLY be delivered within Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti, and Hutt Valley. Ingredients will be delivered in advance. Non-Wellington participants, please purchase the $48 no ingredients ticket.

Housesmoked roast pork shoulder, bacon, and pulled pickled pork with kawakawa slaw, cheese sauce, buttered sriracha, fried onion strings, smoked tomato relish and housemade black garlic aioli in a Bens Buns semi-sourdough bun, with handcut kūmara fries and black garlic aioli. Beer match: Hāpi Daze
La Gran Tortuga
Beef patty with chorizo, bacon, Turk's chicken, frankfurter, free range fried egg, cheese, grilled onions and jalapeño aioli in a housebaked bun, with kūmara fries. Beer match: Pickle Beer
Truffle and marsala marinated chicken thigh with Waikanae Butcher guanciale, Swiss, pickled red onions, baby spinach, braised onion puree and Kāpiti olive oil in a Sicilian-style sesame brioche bun, with fries and aioli. Beer match: Electric Dry Hop Acid Test

Ginners Be Gone (low alc)
Juniper bitters, soda water and mulled sugar syrup. N.B. As this drink contains bitters it is not alcohol free and will contain a low percent ABV.
Partners in Lime
Kāpiti Bond Store vodka with egg white, ginger beer, fried makrut lime leaf, zested lime and sugar syrup of housegrown lemongrass and makrut lime leaves, ginger, tabasco and a pinch of rock salt.
Lime and Punishment (non alc)
Bundaberg ginger beer with fried makrut lime leaf, zested lime and sugar syrup made out of lemongrass and makrut lime leaves grown locally in our long beach garden, ginger, tabasco and a pinch of rock salt.
Tequila with Greytown Honey and elderflower liqueur.
