Spend the day splashing in the waves, take a walk, watch the sunset or go for a horse ride. With 40 kilometres of sandy beaches, you're spoilt for choice in Kāpiti.
The surf’s often up in Paekākāriki, but when it’s not, grab you paddle boarding to watch the sunset over Kāpiti Island.
Raumati Beach and Raumati South both have sandy beaches great for swimming, surf casting, kayaking and other water sports.
Paraparaumu Beach, a safe swimming and child friendly beach, and also a popular spot for fishing, boating, kayaking.
The beautiful cherry blossom lined Te Moana Road, ‘the road to the sea’ will lead you to Waikanae beach.
Peka Peka may be the smallest of the seaside towns, but the beach is one of the most beautiful!
Cycle the beautiful coastal trails throughout Kāpiti.
Choose the scenic ride through Queen Elizabeth Park on the Te Ara o Whareroa track from Paekākāriki to Raumati South. Or any of the other gentle or challenging cycleways the region has to offer.

Take in spectacular views of Kāpiti Island from high above the Kāpiti Coastline on one of the region’s finest walking experiences.
The Escarpment Track runs from Paekākāriki to Pukerua Bay, taking in sweeping views of the spectacular Kāpiti Coastline and the region’s famous Kāpiti Island.
Our magnificent beaches all along the Kāpiti Coast are open to horses.
Some areas in Paekākāriki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki have restrictions from 11am-5pm from 1st of December to the end of daylight saving.
Beach horse treks are also available with the Kāpiti Equestrian Centre in Waikanae.

With three aquatic centres, Ōtaki Pool, Waikanae Pool (summer season) and Coastlands Aquatic Centre, there is plenty for the family to enjoy any day of the week.
With so many options available, and the idyllic coastal setting, exploring the stores on offer is a great reason to visit for the day.
The Kāpiti Coast has boutique, retail and outlet shopping to suit all styles and budgets. Whether you want to explore local boutiques in each village, visit the big retailers at Coastlands Mall, discover your next favourite artist, or grab a bargain at the outlet stores in Ōtaki, each township on the Coast will have something to tempt you.
Once you've had your retail fix, stop in to one of the horticultural gardens and stock up on locally grown fruit and vegetables, or even take the kids and pick your own!
Marine Gardens Raumati
Garden Rd, Raumati Beach
This beachfront playground in Raumati Beach is home to a fantastic splash pad, plenty of play equipment including a flying fox and a miniature railway.
Set amidst beautiful trees and flower beds, there are picnic tables in both the sunshine and the shade. There are swings for all ages, a sand pit with a digger and a tunnel slide down a hill.
The miniature train on the bank above the playground features two tunnels and is a double loop track just under 1km long. The train runs between 1pm-4pm on Sundays and is $1.50 a trip.

Ngā Manu Nature Reserve offers you, your family and visitors a unique opportunity to have a hands-on experience with nature and combines education with a great day out. See New Zealand’s rare brown kiwi in our Nocturnal House and meet native birds in our walk-through aviaries. Watch or participate in feeding endangered long-fin eels, spot native geckos and get up close to the ancient tuatara. Take an easy stroll through one of Kāpiti’s largest remnants of coastal lowland swamp forest in this idyllic bird sanctuary.
