Take the kids to one of the 50 playgrounds in Kāpiti or head to the pool. Here are some of our top picks.
This beachfront playground in Raumati Beach is home to a fantastic splash pad, plenty of play equipment including a flying fox and a miniature railway.
Set amidst beautiful trees and flower beds, there are picnic tables in both the sunshine and the shade. There are swings for all ages, a sand pit with a digger and a tunnel slide down a hill.
The miniature train on the bank above the playground features two tunnels and is a double loop track just under 1km long. The train runs between 1pm-4pm on Sundays and is $1.50 a trip.
Maclean Park playground and skate park in Paraparaumu Beach features a lighthouse, life sized motor boat and trailer.
A Kāpiti favourite, Maclean Park sits between the beach and the shops. Kids love the marine themed playground and 'witch's hat' climbing structure.
Maclean Park is often home to events in the summer so keep an eye out for activities.
Get wet at the brand new splash pad or try out the pump track on your bike, great for beginners. Haruatai Park in Ōtaki also has a keyhole basketball court, picnic tables with shade sails, toilets and Kāpiti's tallest swing. There's also outdoor exercise equipment if you want to join in the fun!
The Coastlands Aquatic Centre in Paraparaumu is a 25m lane pool heated to 28 degrees, plus a smaller pool great for kids with a water temperature of 32°c and a separate toddlers pool with water features.
Ōtaki Pool has a 33.5m pool and a toddler’s pool, as well as a free outdoor splash pad.
