Kāpiti summers are filled with events, from kite flying in Ōtaki, to foodie delights at the food fair. XTERRA Wellington will have sporting enthusiasts running amok and film lovers will be ready to relax and unwind at the Māoriland Film Festival.

Waikanae Lions Super Garden Trail

25 - 26 January 2020

Spend a unique weekend visiting some of Kāpiti's most interesting private gardens. 11 distinctly different gardens will be on this year’s trail. Invite some friends, enjoy some great food on the trail and support two great local charities.

This year's recipients are Dementia NZ and Zeal.

TooT SuiTe Boutique, in association with Kapiti Coast District Council, presents the Disney Pixar animated blockbuster - Cars.

Lightning McQueen, a racing car, learns a hard lesson in life when he damages a lot of property in Radiator Springs. His task is to repair the damage done before he can get back on the road.

This is a Free Family Film Night - outdoors at the movies with our giant LED screen & concert sound system in the lush surrounds of the Southward Lawn for an evening film screening outdoors under the stars - an experience that the family will enjoy with fond memories for years to come!

Designed specifically for the Kapiti Coast District Council & Southward Car Museum the free Family Film Night is a unique community event - a new festival concept bringing music, art & family events with a social conscience.

We're aiming for complete diversion of waste at our events & educators will be on hand to help with your recycling. Famous food carts will be serving delicious treats - the best of the Wellington region mobile kitchens.

Gates open at 4.30 with some entertainment & trailers on the big screen.

Gold coin donation appreciated - to a local charity (collection boxes will be at the gate).

A new and exciting sporting event is coming to Kāpiti in February 2020. XTERRA Trail Running will give you the opportunity to experience all that the nation’s capital can throw at you. The XTERRA Trail Runs will leave you with memories of breathtaking views, jagged coastlines, lush native forest, and some of the best after match stories you will ever hear.

The totally new & unique boutique festival experience of TooT Suite is a sophisticated & enjoyable scene for a discerning audience with an exciting blend of awesome music, wonderful food & all the essential elements of a fantastic party with a high quality main stage & visual production in a circus style atmosphere.

TooT Suite main stage entertainment will start at Noon with gates at 11:11AM.

We’re announcing 3 bands & DJs at 11:11am every Monday from 11th November to 2nd December - a total of 12 acts on the main stage with our huge audio, lighting & visual system. With a promise of an eclectic mix of dub, roots, hip hop & funk from some of the most popular bands & DJs.

Food is being arranged by the famous Wellington & Kapiti Coast based Food For The People with a diverse menu of great food by the coolest food carts & trucks in the region... each Monday we will also release information on the superb menus from our selected portable kitchens.

Ōtaki Kite Festival

8 - 9 February 2020

In its 8th year, that Ōtaki Kite Festival is a must see if you are in Kāpiti over the 8th & 9th of February 2020. If you haven't decided what to do with your weekend yet, this should surely sway your decision.

The two day event sees the unique Kāpiti spirit thrive down on Ōtaki beach, with families, friends and kite enthusiasts coming to rejoice in the fun of flying a kite.

See spectacular and unique creations from kite designers, let the kids design their own, buy a stylish new kite or just sit back enjoy some food and watch the kites fly. An event on everyone's calendar that is not to be missed.

Māoriland Film Festival

18 - 22 March 2020

A truly unique event in Ōtaki on the Kāpiti Coast. Māoriland hub presents Māoriland International Film Festival celebrating the Indigenous communities for New Zealand and around the worlds involvement in the filming industry.

For the past six years Māoriland has featured as one of the must attend events on the Kāpiti Coast events calendar. Every March, over a five day period, culture, heritage and community are represented through event and celebrated at an international level.

Founded in 2014 to celebrate Indigenous voices and storytelling in film from Ōtaki, Aotearoa. We exist to uplift the perspectives and stories of Indigenous peoples.

Over the past six years, the festival has grown to be the largest presenter of Indigenous screen content in the Southern Hemisphere with a year-round programme of events.
