SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES
For 5-12 year-olds the Horsey Holiday Programme at Kāpiti Equestrian & Vaulting Club includes horse riding, vaulting, horse care, acrobatics, circus, games and crafts.
WHERE TO STAY WITH YOUR HORSE
Horse Camping at Ōtaki-Māori Racing Club
Based inside the extensive grounds of the Ōtaki-Māori Racing Club and looking out onto the stunning Tararua Ranges, this dedicated horse camping area provides all of the facilities needed by riders and horses alike. Just 5 minutes from State Highway 1 and the Otaki township, you can set up your tent, float or horse-truck right next to your horse’s yard.
There are many hours of riding available within 20 minutes drive of the camp - whether trail riding, beach trekking, riding alongside (or in) the rivers in Otaki and Waikanae, or hacking the hilly tracks at Whareroa Farm, the Kāpiti Coast absolutely can cater for your style of riding.
Otaki can also help with your equestrian and camping supplied with Farmlands, Hunting & Fishing, Kathmandu and New World all on nearby. Should the worst happen, the large animal team at Equine & Farm Vet Services on Riverbank Road provide 24-hour support.
Note: Camping at the Ōtaki-Māori Racing Club is a trial from Dec 2021 to end Mar 2022, where portable showers and toilets will be provided onsite exclusively for horse campers.
Te Horo Farmstay
737 State Highway 1, Te Horo
Te Horo Farmstay at Te Horo Equestrian Centre is a comfortable two-bedroom, converted milking shed which sleeps five - and the adjoining Studio with a queen bed sleeps another two guests. It is private, sunny, peaceful and enjoys the rural charm of the farmland surrounding it. With a well-equipped kitchen, lounge with wood burner, dining for six and a large concrete terrace, the Famstay offers an opportunity to relax in privacy with spectacular views.
If you are interested in things equine, the adjoining Te Horo Equestrian Centre offers lessons, short treks and grazing for privately owned horses. The treks are escorted and supervised and suitable for any age or level. You can even bring your own horse!

Kapiti Equestrian Penthouse Sheds
Nestled beside the paddocks, the Penthouse Sheds at Kāpiti Equestrian in Waikanae allow you to enjoy breakfast or dinner in the outdoor kitchen/seating or in the shed garden with the company of horses. The quiet location, which is surprisingly close to the Expressway, provides a lovely place for your and your horse to stay - with access to the river track & beach.
Bring your own horse (upon request) with you to stay and explore all the wonderful facilities Waikanae offers.

Riverbank Farm Equine
Riverbank Farm, 124 Riverbank Road Extension, Otaki
Riverbank Farm Equine is a unique horse and rider training facility offering lessons, a variety of clinics, and horse and rider education with a focus on empathy and confidence.
Director Jane Lenaghan is so passionate about horses that she offers weekend retreats for horses and adults during which a variety of activities are on offer including groundwork, obstacles, jumping, hacking, schooling and an introduction to liberty. Nothing is compulsory, and though you will be encouraged to stretch yourself if you feel like staying within your comfort zone that is perfectly fine too.

Kāpiti Equestrian & Vaulting Centre

The Kāpiti Equestrian & Vaulting Centre in Waikanae is operated by the not-for-profit Kāpiti Vaulting Club Inc – a dedicated and unique family-oriented club.
Visitors and clients of all ages visit to engage in their passion for horses. They offer riding within a beautiful, well-set garden and structured horse environment, inclusive of two large arenas (indoor and outdoor).
Queen Elizabeth Park, Mackays Crossing, Paraparaumu
Kāpiti Stables offer trekking, lessons, holiday programmes, grazing, equine-assisted therapy and even birthday parties from their home at Queen Elizabeth Park.
They offer a range of different trekking experiences to fit perfectly with your riding ability and confidence. Take a trek down to the war memorial, or past the tram all the way down to the beach - they even have pony experiences for our youngest of riders.

Te Horo Equestrian Centre
Te Horo Equestrian farm and Riding Centre offers riding opportunities that suit all ages and experience levels. Just 5km from Te Horo Beach they offer pony rides for littlies, treks for older or more advanced riders and have a qualified instructor available for lessons.
Their school holiday program includes lessons, pony rides, treks, and Own-a-Pony Days on a daily basis. Looking for the full farm experience? Families can book the Farmstay for a “Night on the Farm”.
