With over 50 playgrounds on the Kāpiti Coast, there’s plenty to choose from. Pack a picnic, togs and sunscreen and make a day of it at our top picks for the summer season.

Marine Gardens at Raumati Beach is the perfect spot to park up for the day. Home to a fantastic splash pad, plenty of play equipment and a miniature railway, and (if that’s not enough) the beach is just next door!

Situated between the beach and the shops, Maclean Park at Paraparaumu Beach has something for all ages including a marine-themed playground, large skate park, basketball hoop and plenty of grassy spaces to picnic.

Take a dip and cool off

The Kāpiti Coast is well known for its many beaches, but there are also lots of other ways to cool off.

Set within lovely park settings, the splash pads at Marine Gardens and Haruātai Park are the perfect place for younger kids to play.

Waikanae Outdoor Pool offers fun for the whole family. Whether you are young or young-at-heart there is something for water babies of all ages. Join in on the fun and festivities as it celebrates its fiftieth season this year.

Waikanae & Otaki Rivers offer both kid-friendly paddling spots, as well as deeper swimming holes for a refreshing dip.

Burn off some energy

Get your game face and on and enjoy some friendly competition at Adrenalin Kāpiti Coast. With Paintball, Airsoft and LaserWar, it’s the perfect place to take the kids to burn off some extra energy.

Walk, cycle or ride on one of our many tracks & trails. With over 50 to choose from, there’s something for all ages and fitness levels. Summer-time favourites include stunning shaded bush walks Barry Hadfield Nikau Reserve and the Managone Walkway as well as the Waikanae River Trail and Queen Elizabeth Park.

Looking for something else? Lace-up your skates, grab a scooter or skateboard and head to the skate parks in Ōtaki and Maclean Park, or get some air on the pump tracks at Waikanae Park & Haruatai Park.

Get up close and personal with nature

The best-kept secret on the Coast, Kapiti Island is a seaside adventure not to be missed. Sitting just five kilometres off Paraparaumu Beach, Kapiti Island is a fully immersive, living natural wonderland.

Wander tracks fringed with dense forest, climb the 521m peak for panoramic views or walk along the shoreline and experience one of New Zealand’s oldest and most important nature reserves.
