The quiet township of Te Horo is a gardener's paradise. Hyde Park Garden Centre has some hard to find plant varieties and Lavender Creek Farm is home to 330 different types of lavender.
You can pick your own fruit and vegetables at Penray Gardens, which includes a huge range of chillies and other seasonal fruit and vegetables. The area is also well known for growing olives from which award-winning oils are pressed.
Te Horo has easy access to the coast's bridleways for horse riding in and around the beach. You can go on a beach horse trek from Te Horo Equestrian Centre and Farmstay.

Pretty by name and nature, Ruth's place is a foodie's delight. Open Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 4pm, Ruth Pretty's kitchen shop and Garden Room Cafe is locally famous for their coffee and cake deal. Set in a rustic glass-covered outdoor area it is the perfect place to unwind. The locals make a beeline for the Ginger Gems!
