A rainy day doesn’t have to stop you in your tracks, here are some useful tips and places to keep your day from halting in the rain.
Southward Car Museum
Otaihanga Rd, Paraparaumu
Housing some of the world’s rarest and most valuable vehicles, Southward Car Museum is considered the premier privately owned automotive collection in the Southern Hemisphere.
The grounds include stunning landscaped gardens and lake including a bush walk.
There are regular theatre and music performances, and conference and exhibition facilities are available for hire. Refreshments available from the gift shop. Watch for the annual Open House and Auto Jumble Sale Days, advertised on their website and in the press.
Starlight Arcade
34 Te Roto Drive, Paraparaumu
The recently opened Starlight Arcade is the only games arcade on the Kāpiti Coast. The Starlight team have games for all the family, from pool to new and classic arcade games. Collect prize tickets and redeem them for great merchandise at the end of your session - or keep them until you come back again. It's a great way to spend a fun few hours!
Cinemas
With two cinemas in Kāpiti, you have an array of movies to choose from. Located in Coastlands Shopping centre, Event Cinemas features the latest blockbusters while Shoreline is an independent boutique cinema in Waikanae featuring an eclectic mix of films from around the world.
Coastlands Aquatic Centre

Coastlands Aquatic Centre is a stunning state-of-the-art facility, offering year-round entertainment for the whole family. Whether you’re looking for exercise, rehabilitation, swimming lessons or just having a splash, they have something for you.

Ōtaki Pools
