Kāpiti Arts Trail

Make sure you schedule time for the iconic Kāpiti Arts Trail - an annual event that has been showcasing incredible artistic talent for more than 20 years.

6/7 and 13/14 NOV 2021

Now in its 21st year, the Kāpiti Arts Trail is a free annual event that sees artists across the district open their doors to share Kāpiti’s vibrant art scene with art lovers and the art curious alike.

Nestled between the mighty Tararua Ranges in the east, and 40 km of coastline on the west lies the relatively undiscovered Kāpiti Coast. Less than 60 minutes' drive from Wellington, the Coast is a nature lovers' haven with full access to beaches, fantastic swimming, a marine reserve, many kilometres of tracks and trails for walking, cycling and horseriding and of course the must-visit Kapiti Island.

For the past 20 years, Kapiti Coast has hosted an annual dual-weekend Arts Trail every November. This self-guided trail sees artists throw open their studio doors and invite people in to see not only the works they have available to purchase but also the magic that goes into creating each unique piece. This, the 21st year of the Kāpiti Arts Trail, sees a number of new artists as well as many returning artists - in a delightful combination of both relatively unknown artists and also some globally recognized names.

The unique opportunity to visit artists in studio allows art lovers to really connect with the artists - an experience that adds meaning and depth to the art-artist-consumer relationship. It is this personal connection and the chance to choose your own journey that sees visitors returning to the Kāpiti Arts Trail year after year.

COVID INFORMATION

We are delighted to confirm that the 2021 Kāpiti Arts Trail will go ahead under COVID Alert Levels 1 and 2. All venues will be operating under the Government's COVID guidelines for the Alert Level in place at the time of the event. See www.covid19.govt.nz for latest information.

Please ensure that you sign in at every venue you visit using either the contact tracing app or sign-in forms and follow the venue-specific directions including mask-wearing and venue capacity.

The Arts Trail will definitely feel a little different this year, as we follow the requirements for operating under COVID Level 1 or 2. If you find you have a little wait at a venue, why not nip to the next venue on your list, or pop into one of our many lovely cafes for a quick snack? You can also arrange to visit artists during the week between Arts Trail weekends, or after the Arts Trail.

If an artist is unavailable for any reason they won't put out their Arts Trail flag - if there is no flag, please don't go in.
